Paintmaking workshop
Lynn Zsidov-Steiner
Friday, May 30 from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Washburn Cultural Center Classroom
Join Superior-based oil painter Lynn Zsidov-Steiner for a full workshop demonstrating and discussing paint making of the past and the environmental impacts of different media during her 2025 Ghost Ship Artist Residency.
What on Earth? Rocks, clay, soil, paint!
Lynn is Wisconsin-based an oil painter and naturalist who strives to paint with the most environmentally safe materials she can find. As part of her artist residency at Ghost Ship, she’ll be gathering local materials to lead a paintmaking workshop.
During the workshop, Lynn will demonstrate her process for paintmaking followed by the introduction to make your own oil and watercolor paints.
Each student will create a usable triad of three half-pans of watercolors or three small jars of oil paint.
This is a hands-on workshop, so wear appropriate clothing that can get paint on it and bring a tin or container to carry your new paints home in. There will be a focus on safety and protecting the environment from our favorite but sometimes hazardous media.
If time allows there may be an opportunity to also do a small Plein air painting.
Cost + registration
$75 per person. Cost includes paintmaking supplies. Bring a tin or container for bringing your new paints home.
